While this year’s Met Gala theme is “Costume is Art,” with a dress code of “Fashion Is Art,” many red carpet attendees were fixated on “the centrality of the dressed body” as the focus of the exhibit. In 2026, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s famous stairs saw plenty of molded nipples, naked gowns, custom breast plates, and even a few painted-on bodices in honor of the annual fundraiser. And while that’s plenty titillating for one night, there was an even freakier trend on the red (or rather, beige) carpet.

The most popular interpretation of the night’s sartorial mandate was also its most unexpected: wearing extra body parts. From Lisa’s spare limbs to Beyoncé’s glittering skeleton, attendees took the theme a step further, wearing bodies on their bodies with their custom gowns and priceless jewelry. Ahead, see more of the weirdest, wildest trend from this year’s Met Gala.
